The Honourable Darrell Dexter, former Premier of Nova Scotia, is the Vice Chair of Global Public Affairs. He is a senior member of the Global team, working with our firm’s public affairs experts across the country on a range of client matters and business development initiatives.

Darrell assumed the leadership of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party (NDP) in 2001 and led it to form the first-ever provincial NDP government in Atlantic Canada, becoming the 27th Premier of Nova Scotia. As Premier, he earned praise for controlling spending, launching a renewable energy strategy, and reducing small business taxes. Darrell oversaw ambitious new environmental policies and was presented with a Climate Leadership in Canada award at the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. As Chair of the Council of the Federation from 2012-13, Darrell worked on key initiatives such as leading an economic trade mission to China, establishing the Pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance, and improving the flow of inter-provincial trade.

A lawyer by background, Darrell also worked as a journalist and served in the Canadian Armed Forces before launching his career in public service, spending 15 years in the Nova Scotia Legislature as an MLA. In the course of his work as an elected official, party leader, Leader of Nova Scotia’s Official Opposition, and Premier, Darrell was engaged on critical issues and discussions related to energy and resource development, transportation, healthcare, the environment, infrastructure, and the economy.

Darrell holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Dalhousie University, a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College, and a law degree from Dalhousie University.

Jennifer Dianne Thomas is a corporate transactional specialist with 7+ years of experience advising emerging growth and start-up companies in commercial transactions, corporate governance, corporate Intellectual Property matters and regulatory compliance. She has particular expertise in international/emerging markets, M&A, and complex commercial contracts.

Ms. Thomas has been a senior associate at two US top 25 law firms and was the youngest associate to be inducted into the M&A and Banking & Finance practice groups. Ms. Thomas served as outside in-house counsel for 3+ companies and counsel business teams on legal matters from start-up to IPO stage. She has represented start-up companies, emerging growth companies, and established brands within the CPG (consumer products goods) industry - including but not limited to Spanx,
Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, Krispy Kreme, Sysco, and Pepsi.


Paddy Finnegan, Director

Paddy Finnegan has grown up in the process design, fabrication, installation and integration business. Cutting his teeth on the tools and as a project manager in his families business he was soon moved into sales and business development roles. Specializing in being a professional "second set of eyes" he uses his broad Food and Beverage experience to develop custom solutions for his partners. Paddy is the Food and Beverage Business Unit Manager for Lakeside Process Controls. Lakeside Process Controls is the Emerson Impact Partner for Central Canada and are focused on bringing digital transformation to the Food and Beverage Segment.


June Nicholson,
EVP of Partnerships & Government Affairs, Hill St Beverage Company

June Nicholson has a long history in working with government to influence policy, including allergen regulations affecting children. As a former CEO of a food manufacturing and distribution firm, June lends leadership to the CBPA from the perspective of manufacturing, marketing, and consumer advocacy. As EVP Partnerships and Government Affairs at Hill Street Beverages, June works to ensure compliance, work with others in the industry to advance beverage acceptance, and to align with other partners in the industry.


Lisa Campbell, Co-Chair
CEO of Lifford Cannabis Solutions

Lisa Campbell became a true cannabis expert by working extensively in international drug policy with Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy and is currently the Chair of the Ontario Cannabis Consumer & Retail Alliance. Lisa is founder and CEO of Lifford Cannabis Solutions, helping cannabis companies come to market across all ten provinces, leveraging Lifford’s national salesforce and longstanding partnerships with provincial control boards. Lisa holds a Master of Environmental Studies from York University and is a Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Universities Without Walls alumnus.


Terry Donnelly, Director
CEO, Hill St Beverage Company

Terry Donnelly  is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Hill Street Beverage Company (TSXV: BEER), focused on the production of world-class, award-winning, cannabis-infused and alcohol-free wine and beer. Their products have won awards around the world, including three Golds at the US Open Beer Championship, a Double Gold at the San Francisco International Wine Challenge, and the Retail Council of Canada’s Grand Prix Award.

The company is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BEER, which he thinks is both hilarious and awesome. The company is preparing its brewing and wine-making operations to become a leader in cannabis-infused beverages, which will be available in late 2019 or whenever the government decides to allow them. Terry is also the co-founder of the Cannabis Beverage Producers Alliance, a national organization representing the unique interests of beverage producers for the purposes of lobbying and public education.
